Irish Actress ‘Saoirse Ronan’ set to shine in 2017

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (22) is coming in to 2017 a double Oscar nominee after her stellar performance in Irish film Brooklyn based on the novel of the same name from writer Colm Tóibín which earned her a second Oscar nomination in 2016. But 2017 is set to be the biggest year yet for Ronan with a slew of new movies coming out in 2017 and more in the pipeline.

Here are the movies we can expect to see Saoirse in this year…

The Seagull 

The Seagull is an upcoming American drama film directed by Michael Mayer based on a play of the same name by Anton Chekhov. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Annette Bening and Corey Stoll. It centers on the romantic and artistic clashes between fading actress Irina Arkadina played by Annette Bening the fresh-faced Nina Zarechnaya played by Saoirse Ronan and famous writer Boris Trigorin played by Corey Stoll, Irina’s lover; and failing playwright Konstantin Treplyov played by Billy Howle, Irina’s son who is in love with Nina. All four come up against one another while visiting a country estate owned by Irina’s brother.

On Chesil Beach

On Chesil Beach reunites Saoirse with Ian McEwan who wrote the novel which was nominated for the Booker Prize in 2007 and screenplay for On Chesil Beach and also wrote the novel for Saoirse’s Oscar nominated performance as Briony Tallis in Atonement. It is a drama centred on a young couple on their honeymoon in the 1960s in a small hotel on the Dorset seashore, at Chesil Beach which sees both characters reflect upon their upbringing and the prospect of their futures leading them both to an experience that will change their relationship forever.

Loving Vincent

Loving Vincent is the world’s first ever full length feature film which is entirely hand painted featuring 12 oil painting per second by over 100 painters. The film is based on the life and mysterious death of Vincent Van Gogh 125 years ago. The film is currently being produced by Oscar-winning studios BreakThru Films and Trademark Films. With stars Saoirse Ronan, Aidan Turner, Chris O’Dowd and many more. This is sure to be a ground breaking film and first of its kind. Check out the stunning trailer below.

Lady Bird

Lady Bird is an upcoming American comedy drama film written and directed by Greta Gerwig following the adventures of a young woman (Saoirse Ronan) living in Northern California for a year. It is already set to be one of the most anticipated movies of 2017.

Mary Queen Of Scots 

Saoirse has been attached to this movie now for a number of years originally announce 4 years ago but it will finally kick in to production this year. It is based on the fascinating tale of Mary Queen of Scots  Mary Stuart pitted against her English cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, with themes of politics, religion, sex and betrayal. An amazing piece of history where Elizabeth had her cousin Mary imprisoned for 18 years before inflicting the ultimate punishment. This really is one film to watch out for this year and could possibly earn Saoirse her third Oscar nomination if not the actually Oscar itself.

Sweetness in the Belly

Sweetness in the Belly is based on the novel written by Camilla Gibb. The film which is set to be directed by Zeresenay “Zee” Berhane Mehari, whose first feature film “Difret” was executive produced by Angelina Jolie and went on to win the audience award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Ronan will play Lilly, a refugee living in London. Who is Orphaned in Africa as a child, Lilly’s first experience of her parents’ homeland of England is as a refugee, escaping civil war. “As lost in this cold new world as her fellow immigrants, Lilly becomes the heart of this disenfranchised community in London, attempting to reunite people with their scattered families. But as her friend Amina discovers, Lilly’s mission isn’t purely altruistic and a passionate lost love affair is revealed between Lilly and Aziz, an idealistic doctor.”
