Erik Finman dropped out of school when he was 15 years old and is not a millionaire. Seven years ago Erik invested in bitcoins when he received a $1,000 (£7,900) gift from his grandmother, which he spent on Bitcoin. He sold that, two years later, for $100,000 (£79,000).
Erik then set up an online education company, called Botangle in 2015 and was offered either another $100,000 or 300 bitcoins to sell the company. He chose Bitcoin, when it was worth just $200 per coin.
Erik said “I had these teachers that were all kind of negative,” he added. “One teacher told me to drop out and work at McDonald’s because that was all I would amount to for the rest of my life. I guess I did the drop-out part.” I bet their green with envy now right?
He added: “The way the education system is structured now, I wouldn’t recommend it. It doesn’t work for anyone. I would recommend the internet, which is all free. You can learn a million times more off YouTube and Wikipedia.”
